Cannot launch vSphere Client 4.0 or 5.0 after installing in Windows 8

You can see these errors while connecting to the server.
  • Error parsing the server "<servername>" "clients.xml" file.
  • The type initializer for VirtualInfrastructure.Utils.HttpWebRequestProxy' threw an exception.
This issue is resolved in VMware vSphere 4.0 Update . Prior to this update, the vSphere Client is not supported in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 2003, or Windows 2008 R2 and it does not run in Compatibility Mode. This issue may occur because of the .NET loading mechanism change in Windows 8,Windows 2008 R2, Windows 7, and Windows 2003.

Before the installation of vSphere client 4.0 or 5.0 you must have to do these steps:

1. Firstly download Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 from Microsoft site.

2. Next, you have to install the Microsoft Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable Package Second Edition (x64) - Allow Visual J# applications to run on computer running MS .NET Framework (x64). The Visual J# Redistributable Package is not intended to run applications that were written with other Java-language development tools. Applications and services built with Visual J# will run only on the .NET Framework and will not run on any Java Virtual Machine. Visual J# has been independently developed by Microsoft and is not endorsed or approved by Sun Microsystems, Inc.

3.       Right-Click VMware-viclient.exe, choose “Properties” as shown in the figure:

4.       On the “Compatibility” tab, check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and choose Windows 7″ from the list. Click “Ok”

5.       Run the VMware vsphere client installer and it will run normally.
